So, the other day, someone (I am not going to say who) sent me a message which read something like this:

"Hey Mr. Popular,
...
..."

Before replying to the person's message, I asked why did he call me "Mr. Popular". He replied back saying because almost everyone knows me in dA.

I was kinda set aback. Am I really known to everyone? I replied back to him saying that I do not think at all that I am popular and I do not think everyone knows me apart from a handful of them.

Then I asked myself after I had replied to that person, "When would I be calling myself popular then? and How would I measure that I am popular?"

May be when

1) Atleast 10% of 27 million deviants in dA would know me
2) I have say about 100,000+ watchers
3) I have thousands of favs and comments on my deviations

I leave this discussion open. And would like to get your views in this.

Question to you: When do you think you would be eligible to call yourself popular?

Best,
Sid

popular is just when you feel like it. everybody knows donald trump, and some may call him popular but to other people he's less poplar than jay-z. popularity can be seen from two sides; from the people and from your own side.

the person who says you are popular may not be as well known as you are, but someone that is more well known than you are may not call you popular. in this case the person that called you popular can be seen as a spokesman of the many people that may be less popular than you, but the same cannot be said for the people that are more popular than you.

and about your own perspective; popularity is a feeling. if you feel confident enough to say that you are popular then you are, and if you're not then you're not.

in the end it's very hard to determine which is which because the line is very vague and inconsistent.
