A new contest is in the house! Yes, you have heard me right! A new CSS contest with premium prizes to grab for yourself is here for you!
You and I can see a lot of journal skins present in our DA's Journal & Gallery Skins category till date but we see only a few of them are modern style designs. As, many of you probably know that I mostly like modern design for my journal skins. So, I want you to go crazy with your own creativity and do the same for this contest.
Many of you might wonder, what is modern style web designs anyway?
1) has few colors
2) contains simple yet elegant images to make the design look smart
3) has all it's elements well arranged
4) has minimalistic touch (not always though)
5) includes high usage of typography
NOW DON'T GET SCARED! It isn't that hard!
I am providing you with some example of modern designs below. You can have a general idea of what a modern design is from these.
What do you need to do for the CSS contest?
You just have to design a modern style CSS skin. You may include different features such as dropdown menus, feature boxes, sidebar, progress bars, etc. etc. or you MAY NOT use any.. it is completely up to you! Just go creative with your design and follow the rules given below, that's all!
DESIGNING RULES
- The design should have a solid base color or a simple repeating pattern for it's background
- Apart from the base color you are allowed to use 7 more colors at max (A slight variation of any color shall be considered as one color)
- Your design should not contain more than 3 images for the design (thumbnails of deviations and small icon images are excluded and are not counted)
- The images can be used anywhere such as header, footer or in the body of the design
- The overall space consumed by the images used should not cross approximately 35% of the whole design
HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST?
1) Fav
2) Design your skin
3) Send your entries by providing a link to your deviation in the comments
All entries shall go to a favorite folder
SUBMISSION RULES
- The entry has to be new and created by you
- You can submit a CODED version or just the DESIGN of the skin
- Collabs are allowed
- If you do a collab work then the prize will be split between all the collab partners
- Any stock used should be credited and get prior permission for it's usage from the owner
- A maximum of 3 entries is allowed per person/collab
- By entering into the contest you agree that you will allow your design to be coded (if it is not coded) and publish it to DA for everyone to use
- Any copyright infringement of design shall lead to disqualification of the submitted entry instantly

I hope the design isn't possibly considered "too minimal", but since minimalism and unobstrusiveness are central parts of modern web design, I believe it fits the requirements well. As mentioned in the description, the skin is already coded as normal HTML (the presented screenshot is actually from my browser), so transforming it into a real Journal skin shouldn't be too hard (especially considering that I already tried to implement some of the restrictions that apply to Journal skins — more info in the description).
